Johnson's Alleged Troubles Give Sheriff Pause
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
It's been rumored Sacramento County Sheriff John McGinness was leaning toward endorsing Kevin Johnson in his bid for mayor.
But now, news of a 2007 Sacramento police investigation of Johnson into allegations of sexual misconduct with a student at his school and the 1995 Phoenix investigation of alleged sexual misconduct with a 16-year old girl are causing concern for Sheriff McGinness. Neither of those allegations went beyond the investigation phase.
An endorsement from McGinness would be a big one as he's one of the most popular politicians in our area.
But the sheriff tells CBS13, exclusively, he's not announcing who he's supporting just yet but quote: "It gives me pause, I'm going to have to talk with him in person. It may be these things look worse than they are, but this is troubling."
If the sheriff does decide to endorse the Johnson for mayor, it could go a long way towards erasing the image problems these old allegations cause.
Sheriff McGinness says high profile celebrities often are targets of accusations of sexual inpropriety and often as in these two situations, police investigations never result in any charges.
