Kevin Johnson Celebrates Historic Win
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Sacramento Mayor-elect Kevin Johnson celebrated his election win with a ceremonial swearing-in event Tuesday night. Johnson won't be officially sworn-in as mayor until next week, when the vote is officially certified.
Johnson promised to effect change in his first 100 days of office by auditing the city's budget and work to get more police officers on the street. He also showed some humor, referencing his "unauthorized tour" of City Hall and calling it a sign of how excited he is to get started.
Businesses and groups committed more than $130,000 to pay for the gala, although only around $90,000 was needed. The 2,800 guests who accepted a free ticket had to commit to either doing volunteer work or donating to a local charity.
About 3,000 people were expected to attend the party.
