Schwarzenegger Among State's Top Political Donors
SACRAMENTO (AP) ―
Movie producer Steve Bing has given more money to California political causes and candidates than any other person in the last decade -- $58 million.
That's according to a Top 10 donors list compiled by the California Fair Political Practices Commission and released Tuesday.
Next is GOP gubernatorial hopeful Steve Poizner, who has given $43 million to various causes, including his runs for office. Steve Westly, who ran a failed campaign for the 2006 Democratic gubernatorial nomination, was third, spending nearly $42 million.
Also on the list was Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has given nearly $26 million.
Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, a Republican, has given $39 million to her gubernatorial campaign this year, but only half that was noted in the report, which counted donations through 2009.
