A Sacramento man was arrested for hoarding cats. In total, 77 were taken away.
"We're they living a good life? They were living a good life but the thing of it is, it got a little out of hand," said Paul Franco, cat owner.
Now the home he shares with his wife is condemned as a health hazard and some of his cats have been taken.
Paul came back to his condemned home with cat food.
"If you're going to have an animal you have to take care of it," said Franco.
But Franco and his wife Kathy were arrested for animal cruelty, after cops found 77 cats inside the home -- a home police say is caked with feces and urine.
Franco told me he didn't let people inside.
"I wouldn't have liked you to come in the house. You'd say 'how can they live in that house?'" said Franco.
Code enforcement won't let anyone inside now, but a look at the garage door, which is lined with cat feces, hints at what you'd find inside.
Franco admits he and his wife needed to clean more.
"I could live in there," said Franco. "I could smell what is wrong, you know what I mean, because I'm used to it."
Now Franco is locked out of his home. And if animal control has its way, his giant family of felines will never return.
The maximum number of cats you can own in Sacramento is seven.
