Puppy Survives After Being Flushed Down The Toilet

British Boy, 4, Accidentally Flushes Pet During Bath

LONDON (CBS) ― A week-old puppy survived after it was accidentally flushed down a toilet in London by a little boy and becoming trapped in a drain for four hours.

Four-year-old Daniel Blair, of Northolt in west London, was attempting to wash the newborn dog in the commode on Sunday after it had become muddy from a walk in the garden. When he flushed the toilet, the poor pooch was swept away and got trapped in a waste pipe.

Daniel's mother, Alison Blair, called specialist drain firm Dyno-Rod to locate the dog, which was discovered in a pipe 20 yards away from the house, reports CBS station WCBS-TV in New York City.

Neighbors were asked not to flush their toilets for fear that the puppy might be swept away into the main sewer, where a rescue attempt would be impossible.

Dyno-Rod plumber Will Craig, along with help from local fire officials and the RSPCA (Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), then managed to use drain rods to nudge the puppy towards a manhole cover from which it was plucked to safety.

"The Fire Brigade was here, they informed me what it was. I got the camera equipment out that we use for drain surveys and put the camera down the drain to find out whereabouts it was. It was under next door's house between the two runs of the manholes," said Craig. "We talked about how we were going to get it out, how we were going to do it. So we decided to push it out. The RSPCA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) said it would be fine so we attempted to. I started pushing it really slowly and gently and the Fire Brigade went the other end to take it out."

The puppy was dubbed "Dyno" in honor of his rescuers.

Young Daniel has since apologized, and promised not to wash the pup in the toilet again.
