Injured Sea Lion Spotted At Knights Landing Marina
KNIGHTS LANDING (CBS13) ―
A sea lion allegedly shot by a Sacramento County man was spotted Friday, but then got away from officials. The injured mammal has traveled from Sacramento to San Francisco, and now it's been spotted in Knights Landing.
Armed with nets, plywood and a plan to corner the injured sea lion, marine scientists attempt a sixth rescue.
The sea lion, found resting on the dock ay Sting Rayz Marina in Knights Landing Friday, is believed to be the same mammal that was shot by a fisherman and spotted near Old Sacramento, Pier 39 and Clarksburg over the past several weeks.
"Poor thing was looking at me out of one eye; the other eye was missing. So sad," said David Boise.
David Boise contacted authorities after the sea lion tipped over his boat, hoping someone could help it. Scientists with the Marine Mammal Center hoped this time would be it, but the sea lion eluded them again.
Disappointment washed over the scientists as the frightened mammal slipped out of their nets, escaping into the water.
Scientists say while this was their best attempt yet, time is running out as the animal's health seems to be worsening.
