Calif. Girl, Boyfriend Arrested In Mom's Death

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. (CBS) ― A sheriff's office in northern California says a 14-year-old girl and her boyfriend have been arrested in the slaying of the girl's mother.

El Dorado County Sheriff's Department Capt. Craig Therkildsen said Tylar Witt and 19-year-old Steven Colver were arrested Wednesday by San Bruno police at a Red Lobster restaurant outside San Francisco.

The pair are suspected of killing Tylar's mother, 47-year-old Joanne Witt, whose body was found on Monday after being violently murdered several days ago.

CBS station KOVR-TV has also learned the teens had apparently spent at least one night while they were on the run in a Holiday Inn on Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco.

Investigators say the young suspects altered their appearance and fled to the Bay Area. Their car was found in the 500 block of O'Farrell Street in San Francisco on Tuesday morning.

Authorities declined to confirm or deny any of the rumored motivations for the murder, but acknowledged they have responded to emergency calls for the family in the past.

On May 18, police responded to the Witt house on an assault call. Tylar admitted to assaulting her mother and was taken to juvenile hall, according to authorities.

Police are focusing on the suspects' relationship for clues relating to the murder.

"We do believe the relationship between the daughter and boyfriend may have led to this," Sgt. Byers said.

The suspects' profiles posted on social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook reveal a glimpse into their relationship, KOVR-TV reported. Tylar, who identified herself as 16, posted a blog on her MySpace page that professed her love for Colver. She raged against people who wanted to keep them apart.

"would u be happy then u son of a <expletive>!!! no.... no u wouldn't be happy!!! cz ur never satisfied!!!" said one blog posting titled "<expletive> U FATHER!!! I love you Steven."

On Colver's Facebook profile, friends urged him to surrender and expressed shock at the charges.

"Boston, you've got to quit running," said one post. "We're all worried about you here… you once told me that you would never be capable of such a thing. Prove me right. Prove yourself right."
