Travelers aboard an American Airlines flight headed to Boston spent the night in Miami instead after a bomb scare prompted their flight to return to Miami International Airport Thursday night.
The FBI is investigating an apparent bomb threat aboard flight 1640, headed to Boston. It was forced to return to Miami for security reasons. The FBI says someone on the flight found a note in the plane's bathroom suggesting there was bomb.
The plane returned to Miami, where passengers safely got off and were transported back to the terminal back via shuttle buses. Investigators are inspecting the plane.
It is a 757 that had 168 passengers on board and a crew of six.
The plane left Miami at 9:31 p.m. and returned at 10:15 p.m.
American Airlines Officials announced passengers were being placed in hotel rooms and would not catch their flight to Boston until 9:30 a.m. Friday.
