Fire Helicopter Crashes, 4 Critically Injured
JUNCTION CITY, Calif. (CBS) ―
A helicopter transporting four firefighting personnel crashed near a fire in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest in California, according to officials.
The U.S. Forest Service said a Sikorsky S-61 helicopter being used to combat the Buckhorn Fire, about 15 miles northwest of Junction City, crashed just north of the flames Tuesday evening.
Four fire personnel were taken to a Redding hospital and are listed in critical condition. The Forest Service has not confirmed how many people were onboard the aircraft when it went down.
Investigators will try to determine the cause of the crash Wednesday.
Officials are planning to hold a press conference tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. PDT.
