Rash Of Arsons Striking Fear In Pa. Town

COATESVILLE, Pa. (CBS) ― Investigators have declared a 23rd arson in a part of southeastern Pennsylvania that has been plagued by suspicious fires this year.

The latest blaze happened in a trailer home just outside Coatesville at about 11:40 Friday night, CBS station KYW-TV reported. Investigators now say the blaze, which destroyed the home, was arson.

The scene is in East Fallowfield Township, about six miles south of Coatesville.

"Come up in my house!" said Russella Miles, sister of the latest fire victim. "Come up in mine, because I've got something for you!"

Miles echoes a sentiment of frustration being felt by many Coatesville residents, forced to live in fear or the recent string of arson attacks.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says there have been 18 arsons in Coatesville and five in surrounding areas since Jan. 1.

The owner of the trailer, who was too distraught to speak to media, was at work during the fire. His wife was home and managed to flee the home, escaping injury, however all of the couple belongings were destroyed in the fire.

Investigators have not made any arrests.

The Coatesville police chief announced Friday that everyone under the age of 18 must be off the streets by 8 p.m. The city's curfew had been 10 p.m.

A reward for information leading to an arrest has now reached $20,000.
