Omar Weakens, Heads Toward Open Atlantic

MIAMI (AP) ― Forecasters say Omar has weakened to a tropical storm with top winds of 70 mph as it heads toward the open Atlantic.

Officials in the U.S. Virgin Islands say Omar knocked down trees and caused some flooding and minor mudslides there. But there were no immediate reports of deaths or major damage.

As of 11 p.m. EDT, The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm's center was located about 715 miles southeast of Bermuda and moving northeast near 25 mph. The storm's expected to slow down and weaken over the next few days.
