A Northwest Airlines flight with about 150 people on board made an emergency landing at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport after a flight attendant reported a burning smell, according to an airline official who said no injuries were reported.
Northwest Flight 687 left Philadelphia International Airport on Friday morning heading for the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. But the pilot radioed the Chippewa Valley control tower at 12:48 p.m. requesting permission to land, said airport manager Charity Speich.
"The flight crew determined that there was an unidentifiable odor on the aircraft, and made the decision to make an emergency landing in Eau Claire," Speich said.
The plane landed without incident about 1 p.m.
The airline arranged for three buses to drive the passengers to the Twin Cities airport about 90 miles away, where many of them missed their connecting flights.
No passengers reported any side effects from the odor, Speich said.
A message left for Northwest Airlines on Saturday evening was not immediately returned.
