Social Security Disablility & Social Security

QUESTION: My husband gets social security disability (not SSI) and a small retirement from San Joaquin County.  He also is allowed to work part time/on call for San Joaquin County and is listed as a temporary employee.  He has been doing this since 1985.  This job has FICA taken out every payday.  We understand social security disability will automatically change to social security when he turns of age.  Will his social security amount increase when he turns 65 or 67 because of the FICA being taken out over the years?

ANSWER: Typically, upon reaching full retirement age nothing changes.  I would suggest reviewing your annual statement the social security administration sends you annually.  This may give you some insight as to whether the amount of earned income materially affects the full retirement benefit.  You might also consider calling the social security administration at 1-800-772-1213.
