Discovering the Discovery Museum
With the Martin Luther King Holiday, many families
have the day off. I found a place where
you can take the kids have a fun and educational
experience and you don't have to spend a fortune. It's the Discovery Museum's
Science and Space Center located on Auburn Boulevard in
Sacramento.
My boys love it as most kids do. There are a lot
of interactive displays and this month's theme is "Got Trees?". Part of the
center is dedicated to everything you wanted to know about trees. The log cabin playhouse and wooden tunnel is a huge
hit.
The other part of the center is the Nature
Discovery Room. There, you can see hissing cockroaches, spiders, butterflies,
fire belly toads, porcupines, an owl named Milo, many turtles and rabbits and
you can't forget Bella the Bunny. Children get to learn about the food chain
and get to play games about insects.
A family of four can go there for under 20
dollars. Kids under four are free. There is a beautiful nature reserve in the
back of the building and when the weather is nice, you can let the kids burn off
some energy and run around.
