Woman, 39, Busted For Impersonating Elderly Woman

Suspect Allegedly Dressed Up As Elderly Woman, Tried To Cash $10,000 Check

LINCOLN (CBS13) ― A woman is under arrest after taking identity theft to a strange level: Authorities allege that she not only stole an elderly woman's identification, but dressed up to play the part. Police busted her at the Thunder Valley Casino, trying to cash in a $10,000 check as the victim.

Dorothy Massa, 76, was stunned to find her car window smashed and purse missing last Thursday while walking her dog in a local park. Authorities say that Kecia Hawarneh, 39, allegedly stole Massa's purse that day, taking her drivers license with her.

"That's funny, too," said Massa. "It's an awful picture."

Hawarneh allegedly walked into Thunder Valley Casino with a gray wig, bifocals and a cane on Saturday night, and tried to cash one of Massa's checks for $10,000.

"That is unbelievable," said Massa.

The cashier reportedly picked up on Kecia's disguise and notified security. When they arrived, the suspect stated how furious she was that an elderly woman would be placed under suspicion.

Apparently, it wasn't an award-winning performance. Kecia was arrested.

Dorothy finds the whole ordeal hilarious, but wants to set the record straight: She doesn't need a cane to walk.
