Kern County Considers Wind Farm Project

BAKERSFIELD (AP) ― The Kern County Board of Supervisors is set to consider plans for a 5,800-acre wind farm designed to provide electricity to 90,000 homes.

Officials with the PdV Wind Energy Project say that between 100 and 300 turbines would generate electricity to be supplied to Southern California Edison.

Some property owners in the area say they are concerned about light pollution and the project's possible effects on wildlife. The site is about 75 miles southeast of Bakersfield near the desert community of Rosamond.

Company officials say they will shield aircraft warning lights atop the turbines and monitor bird and bat deaths at the site.

Supervisors are scheduled to take up the plan at a meeting Tuesday.
