Wildfires Force Evacuations In Two Counties

SACRAMENTO (CBS13/AP) ― Flaring temperatures and windy conditions are fanning several fires that have broken out including two fires that are forcing evacuations: one near Oroville and one in Pollock Pines.

A fast-moving in El Dorado County broke out just south of Pollock Pines in a residential area this morning.  The fire has burned 30 acres near Sly Park Road and Sierra Springs Road. According to fire officials, the fire has been 100 percent contained.

As a result of the fire, some streets in the area have been evacuated. A mandatory evacuation was issued for Pine Tree Drive. Several streets are also under voluntary evacuation, including are Sierra Springs Drive, Canchalago, Edenloss Drive, Shooting Star, Five Spot and Snow Drop. In all, 40 homes are threatened by the fire.

Fire officials have opened a building at the El Dorado County fairgrounds in Placerville for evacuees.

In Butte County, firefighters are have contained 50% of the 100 acre fire in the city of Feather Falls in Butte County.  The fire started around 7:00 this morning.  Feather Falls Recreation area and several hiking trails have been evacuated and closed.  Fire officials say that the wildfire should be fully contained by 8 a.m. Friday.

Cal Fire said two separate fires are burning in Sonoma County this morning. A fire that has charred up to 50 acres is burning heavy vegetation in steep terrain 4 miles up Geysers Road near Geyserville, Cal Fire spokeswoman Karen Stasko said. The fire started around 4 a.m. today and the cause is under investigation.

A 2-acre fire also is burning at St. Helena and Calistoga roads north of Santa Rosa. The Tar Fire was reported at 8:15 a.m. today. Five engines, one bulldozer and two hand crews remained at the scene at about 9 a.m., Stasko said
