Whole Earth Festival Returns To UC Davis
DAVIS (CBS13) ―
The environment is getting a lot of attention, which can only help increase the popularity of one of Davis' annual events. The environmentally-sound Whole Earth Festival once again returned to UC Davis over the weekend.
Everything goes green here, anything for the environment, and nothing left to waste.
"We're a zero-waste festival, which means no trash, basically," said Alexa Sommers-Miller, director of the Karma Patrol, a group of volunteers who keep the festival clean.
The Whole Earth Festival was reffered to today as "the granddaddy of them all." It's been around a long time, depending on who you asked.
"This is the 39th [festival]," said Alexa.
"I've been coming for 45 years," said visitor Thomas Puente.
On the zero-waste theme, volunteers were hard at work in the Resource Recovery Zone.
Where else are you going to find a solar-powered festival with herbal brain-enhancing shakes where they pay you to return your plates? The plates and glasses that were returned were washed and reused an average of five times each day.
When it comes to going green, everyone's welcome.
