Central Valley Community Center Destroyed By Fire

PATTERSON (CBS13/AP) ― A Stanislaus County town has lost its community center to fire leaving teens who used the center for after-school activities searching for a place to go.

Fire fighters from Patterson and Westley battled the blaze at the Westley Community Center over the weekend.  Fire fighters were first called out Saturday evening and got the fire out by 10:00.  But five hours later, smoke was reported coming from the building again.

This time the fire was in the attic and much of the building was destroyed.

The community center was home to several programs like the Stanislaus County Police Athletic League's after-school program.

According to the Patterson Irrigator, the county also used the building for summer daycare and meal programs.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
