West Sacramento Motel Demolished
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
It's the latest step in transforming downtown West Sacramento. An old motel is demolished and destroyed to make room for new development. A control burn that started this morning at 10:30 a.m. will bring down the old "Experience Hotel" in West Sacramento. This once-notorious adult's only establishment on West Capitol will no longer exist.
The "Experience Hotel" was an adult motel and it was used mainly, police say, for prostitution and porn.
Officials are keeping a section of the motel up for training exercises for police and firefighters here in West Sacramento.
Just about an hour ago firefighters set this place on fire, and people could see the smoke for miles.
This was a controlled burn which is part of a revitalization project for the city of west Sacramento. The city bought this property in order to clean up this area and bring new businesses here, and city leaders say they are very excited about it.
A variety of potential uses awaits this site from housing to retail to offices and a future streetcar stop planned will provide service on both sides of the river. Also we understand construction of a new college campus near this site will start.
As to what will actually replace this motel, city leaders still have to decide on that.
