Homeless Man Killed While Crossing Street
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
A transient was struck and killed by a car while crossing a major thoroughfare in West Sacramento, authorities said Saturday.
The West Sacramento Police Department said the homeless man was pushing his cart across West Capital Boulevard when the driver of a light-colored sedan smashed into him. The driver pulled over immediately, police said.
"I just went over there to see if he was okay," said A.J., another homeless man who witnessed the incident. "It wasn't okay. He was just laying down there on the street."
This is not the first such incident on the stretch of road recently -- a West Sacramento police spokesman said this was their third accident in a short period of time.
"He's my best friend," A.J. said tearfully. "We stuck together like thick and thin. He's one of us."
Authorities are still investigating to determine who is at fault in the accident. The name of the victim and driver have not been released.
