Fire Ravages Old West Sacramento Firehouse
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―

A building that once stood to stop fires went up in flames early Saturday morning, and a quick-thinking eyewitness captured the destruction on camera.
Steve Gibbons looked outside his window at 2:30 a.m. Saturday and spotted flames raging at an old West Sacramento firehouse on Lisbon Avenue.
"I thought it was noise from the TV, instead it was across the street," Steve said.
Flames shot 15 feet into the air as firefighters took on the blaze that had engulfed the structure. Fire crews had to cut through two metal doors to get inside and eventually had to cut down the roof, fearing it would collapse.
The flames were intense enough to melt a stack of plastic chairs and char everything inside the structure. The old building hasn't been used as a firehouse for decades, and is currently under the purview of the West Sacramento Parks and Recreation department, who uses it for storage.
Investigators have not identified the source of the blaze yet, but have ruled out electricity and gas as culprits.
Damage to the building is estimated between $30,000 and $40,000.
