Ex-Coach Accused Of Trying To Seduce Students
EL DORADO, Calif. (CBS13) ―
A former coach at Union Mine High School was arrested after being accused of trying to seduce underage students.
Jeffrey Steffens had a contract to coach freshman volleyball for Union Mine High School between August and November of 2008. During that time, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department says he made friends with some of the students.
Once his contract was up, he allegedly continued to have contract with two students, and sent them what they describe as harmful matter through the phone with the intent to seduce them.
Union Mine varsity volleyball coach Mike Yates says he knows Steffens. "He works hard, he cares about the kids," he said. "I don't think he messed up, I just think he got caught up in a screwy situation."
Detectives started investigating the allegations after it was brought to the school resource officer's attention four days ago. Steffens is out on bail.
