Authorities Search For Missing Pilot In Truckee

TRUCKEE (CBS13) ― The search continues today for a pilot missing in the Sierra. The small plane took off from the Truckee-Tahoe Airport at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday afternoon for a quick flight and was supposed to return a short time later.

Clayton Beck, 37, is the pilot of the two-seat Van's RV6 Aircraft.  He has been flying since he was 16-years-old.  So when he decided to head out for a quick trip yesterday afternoon, he left a note for his wife, and no one thought anything about it. 

"We're trying to check all the places he likes to fly in the area. This has been an uncommon thing for him to take off for a 30-minute flight."
The family says Clay's R-V-6 experimental plane just had its annual inspection, and it was in good condition," Sgt. Jeff Pettit, Nevada County Sheriff's Office.

The family says the RV6 experimental plane just had its annual inspection, and it was in good condition. It is described as white with blue and red stripes. Beck was supposed to return in time to drive to Reno for a meeting yesterday afternoon.

The Nevada County Sheriff's Department is working with the Office of Emergency Services and the Air Force Civil Air Patrol in the search effort. Searchers will be looking for Beck in the air and on the ground.

Authorities are also asking pilots to monitor 121.5 MHz for sign of Beck and report any contact with him to Office of Emergency Services or the Air Force Civil Air Patrol. Officials also ask asking anyone with information to contact the Nevada County Sheriff's Office at (530) 582-7842.
