Man Rescued From Trench At Modesto Dairy Farm
MODESTO (AP) ―
A worker at a Modesto dairy farm is in critical but stable condition after being buried by three feet of dirt when a trench he was working in collapsed.
The man, identified by a family member as Kyle Oosterkamp, was working on the family farm when the collapse happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Mark Oosterkamp says he was helping his cousin with the trench -- which measures 15 feet deep, 30 feet long and 8 feet wide -- when it caved in. He says someone called 911, while he and other workers frantically dug with their hands.
Chief Dale Skiles of the Salida Fire Protection District says Oosterkamp was buried by about three feet of dirt.
Mark Oosterkamp says his cousin was conscious and appeared coherent when they pulled him out.
