12 San Joaquin Inmates Test Positive For Swine Flu
FRENCH CAMP, Calif. (CBS13) ―
Twelve inmates in the San Joaquin County Jail have been quarantined after testing positive for the H1N1 virus, or swine flu.
All 12 inmates came from the same section of the jail and began showing symptoms at approximately the same time. All were tested Monday, and the positive results came back Tuesday.
"Treatment has begun," said Kim de la Cruz of the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department. "They are showing improvement."
No other inmates are showing signs of symptoms, but because of the disease's incubation period, more cases in this cluster could be coming.
Visitation hasn't been stopped at the prison, but the Sheriff's Department says they are educating staff and inmates on the symptoms to watch for.
