Deputies Shoot One Suspect, Search For Another
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies interrupted a car burglary this morning shooting one female suspect. They are now searching for a suspect who got away.
The shooting happened near East Parkway and Florin Road in the Parkway apartments just after 3:30 this morning.
Sheriff's deputies reporting to a call about vehicle break-ins found a white two-door Ford Expedition in the parking lot of the Parkway Apartments. As they approached it, deputies say one suspect who had been stripping a car ran into a nearby field. As one deputy chased after him, the driver of the Ford got out of the vehicle and was handcuffed by the second deputy.
As the deputy was taking the driver into custody, he saw the Ford Expedition coming at him driven by an unseen third suspect. The deputy fired at the Ford, fearing for his life.
The driver of the Ford then took off in the direction of the second deputy who had been chasing the other suspect. He also feared for his life and fired at the vehicle.
The Ford then came to a stop and the deputies found a 22-year-old woman inside who had been shot several times in the leg. Deputies say she has a lengthy criminal record. Her wounds do not appear to be life threatening.
During the shooting, both male suspects escaped, but a K-9 officer was able to recapture one of them. He is a 23-year-old Sacramento resident who also has a criminal record. He was taken to the hospital to treated for dog bites he got during his arrest.
The third suspect is still on the loose. He is described as
a white male adult, 5'11" tall, weighing 180 pounds, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
Both deputies involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave as is normal procedure.
Anyone with information on the crime or the whereabouts of the third suspect is asked to call the Sacramento Sheriff's department at 916-874-5115.
