Dueling Prop. 8 Protesters Face Off

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― With just a couple days to go until the November 4th election, passion over Proposition 8 is peaking despite the wet weather.

Demonstrators from both sides of the debate squared off at the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Greenback Lane on Saturday, waving signs and shouting for support from passing drivers. Similar demonstrations took place across California.

"You know, if my child grows up and decides they're going to be gay and they get married, I want them to have that right," said Christina Rothman. "That's why I'm here."

"Think about your future for your kids," shouted another protester. "What's going to happen when they grow up?"

Standing on the sidelines is a guy with no political agenda: a sign holder for Linens-N-Things. Looking a little intimidated by the vocal, sign-holding competition, he was asked what he thought about the issue.

"Well, I just hope people do what's right," he said.

There were reports of shouting and finger-pointing between the two groups, but authorities have not reported any physical altercations or arrests.
