Cops Hunting 'Straw Hat Bandit' For 4 Bank Heists

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Police are searching for a serial bank robber they're calling the "Straw Hat Bandit," believed to have robbed at least four banks in Sacramento -- including one on Wednesday.

Wednesday's target was the Citibank near the intersection of Howe Ave and University Ave, when a man wearing a straw hat and sunglasses carried out the midday robbery. Police say the same man robbed a Natomas bank on April 30, a bank on Watt Ave in Sacramento on May 12, and a bank on Fair Oaks on May 16.

Police have suggested that the suspect could be homeless. "We're looking at the possibility of a transient," said Sgt. Norm Leong. "It is kind of random to jump from Natomas to Howe Avenue."

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male between 40 and 50 years old.
