Red Flag Warning
STOCKTON (CBS13/AP) ― Fires that ignited along Interstate 5 in Stockton on Tuesday swept through a neighborhood and torched 29 homes.

Stockton city spokeswoman Connie Cochran said seven homes, 20 condominiums and one triplex were damaged or destroyed.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries but quickly returned to the fire lines, she said. Paramedics were treating residents for smoke inhalation, but no one had been taken to a hospital.

There was no immediate cause for the four separate fires, which started in grass and brush along the interstate shortly before 11 a.m.

Residents have told CBS13 that flames were two to three stories high, and firefighters have advised them to grab hoses and start hosing down their homes as a precaution.

The fire was driven by a north wind that had gusts up to 30 mph, said Jason Clapp, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento. He said the relative humidity was 15 percent and could drop to single digits.

Officials set-up an evacuation center at Quail Lakes Baptist Church.

All lanes on I-5 are being affected due to the blaze. Traffic in both directions is said to moving slower than ten miles per hour.

Fire officials had not determined a cause.

This is one of several fires that have been keeping fire fighters on their toes this afternoon.

A grass fire that spread to a barn threatened several homes in Vacaville this afternoon before firefighters were able to gain control. The fire was burning on Leisure Town Road and was being fueled by 20 mph winds.

And a fire burned at least one home in Roseville on Soledad Drive.  Firefighters were able to douse the flames before it spread to other nearby homes.
