Stockton Athlete Faces 5 Felony Assault Charges
STOCKTON (CBS13) ―
A Stockton star athlete is facing felony charges in connection with a fight in a fast food restaurant parking lot.
Dewitt Stuckey, 19, is charged with five felonies after a teenager was badly hurt in a brawl at a Stockton In-N-Out Burger. The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries sustained in the fight.
The Lincoln High athlete had accepted a football scholarship to the University of Oregon.
"It would be too sad to see Dewitt not go to Oregon and not pursue his football career," said Kevin Miller, a student at Lincoln High.
Stuckey was not available for comment, but his MySpace page says "Innocent until proven innocent."
The University of Oregon said that they were aware of the charges, but they will not act until a legal determination of Stuckey's guilt has been made.
