Watchdog Group Outraged By New Starbucks Logo

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Some say it's too hot to handle. Some people think the new Starbucks logo is too risqué to take on the go. But is it really grounds for outrage?

Starbucks says it's only trying to get back to its roots; and part of that involves bringing back the original logo.

Over the phone today, Mark Dice, founder of a watchdog group called 'The Resistance', explains why he's calling for a boycott against Starbucks over this logo.

"We wanna send a message to Starbucks that they can't put a half-naked, half-mermaid type figure with her fins, or 'legs', spread open like a prostitute," says Mark.

This image that Dice is talking about is based on Starbucks' original logo; it's actually a slightly cleaned-up version. In response to the boycott, Starbucks released a written statement today saying in part:

"Bringing back an updated version of the original logo is a way to celebrate our heritage and bring a little piece of Seattle to our stores across the country. We chose to slightly alter our original logo based on customer feedback received during our 35th anniversary promotion."
