Smartville 'S' Debate 100 Years In The Making
WOODLAND, Calif. (AP) ―
It will take a federal decision for the tiny Yuba County foothills town of Smartville to get its "s" back.
Residents say the town has been known as Smartsville for 100 years. But the "s" was left out of the official title.
The federal Board on Geographical Names will consider the spelling change next month, 99 years after the same board removed the letter and sparked a century of debate.
