New Drug A Dose Of Trouble For Local Teens

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A recent arrest in Citrus Heights is just the latest example of the influence of a new drug. On YouTube, it's called "sizzurp," or "grape drank."

Kids also call it "lean," because after a few sips, you can't stand up. The ingredients are alcohol, a flavored drink and cough syrup. Sizzurp is becoming a popular illegal drink for teens because of the supposed double high.

There's even detailed instructions on how to make it online.

On Willowcreek Drive in Citrus Heights, many teens are very familiar with sizzurp.

"They just want to get high," said resident Nathan Haynes. A 14-year old boy was arrested last week for getting high on it, and then fighting with police. He landed in the hospital and then juvenile jail.

Many say it's not worth it. "They think it's cool to get high," Nathan said. "It's stupid. You're killing brain cells."

But maybe it's the sign of the times. On this street, there are chalk drawings of illegal drugs and messages encouraging kids to smoke all day.
