A suspect in a fatal a Sacramento sports festival shooting is being treated for injuries suffered when spectators pummeled him with cricket bats and field hockey sticks.
Sacramento County sheriff's deputies say spectators attacked the suspect after he allegedly opened fire Sunday afternoon at the Sacramento Sikh Society Sports Complex.
Authorities say the shooting killed 26-year-old Parmjit Pamma Singh of Bay Point and injured an unnamed 38-year-old man.
Sheriff's Sgt. Tim Curran said the suspect was being treated for "multiple contusions" at UC Davis Medical Center. Deputies said they would not release his name until he was jailed.
Investigators said they believe the gunman and an accomplice targeted the victims at the festival but that the conflict was not related to the sporting events.
