20-Year-Old Woman Shot, Killed In Acampo

More Local News
LODI, Calif. (CBS) ― San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputies are searching for the suspects or suspect who gunned down 20-year-old Acampo woman Wednesday night.

Britani Coberly died last night after being shot outside a home on the 22400 block of N. Highway 99 E. Frontage Road in Acampo.

Deputies say they got a call of shots fired in the area at around 8:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found a man and a woman who had been shot.  They were both taken to the hospital where Coberly was pronounced dead.  The man was treated and released.

The man, Coberly's boyfriend Evan Karoway, told CBS13 15 hours after the couple returned to their Acampo home from dinner, Karoway says there was a man dressed in black and armed with a gun.

"He pointed the gun right at me, I thought I was dead right then and there," says Karoway.

Karoway ran and as he felt the bullet pierce his leg, he thought the worst was over, and that his girlfriend was able to run to safety. But he was wrong, Coberly took her last breath on the side of the home.

"I feel horrible, she was everything to me, she was my family, her family is more of a family than my family,"  Karoway said.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department at (209) 468-4400.
