Raw Sewage Leak Stinks Up Carmichael Neighborhood
(CBS13)
Crews capped a smelly situation in Carmichael after fixing a raw sewage leak.
Residents in the area of Oleander Drive called authorities Sunday morning after noticing a murky liquid bubbling up from the street and a foul odor in the air.
The substance was approximately 10,000 gallons of sewage seeping from underground pipes. Neighbors said the sewage was leaking for at least three hours before crews arrived.
"it was bubbling up. You know in a Jacuzzi, when the water bubbles up. It was like that, except really gross," said Deven McClure-Rodriquez, resident.
State officials were notified because some of the sewage spilled into nearby Verde Cruz Creek. County sewer crews say household grease likely caused the leak by causing a blockage in the underground pipes.
