PTA Member Allegedly Stole $40,000 From School
GRANITE BAY (CBS13) ―
A PTA member has been arrested for allegedly stealing tens of thousands from her child's school in Granite Bay, according to authorities.
Angela Annis, 43, is accused of taking money from the Parent-Teacher Club at Eureka Elementary over the last three years, redirecting at least than $40,000 for personal use. Annis reportedly surrendered to authorities on Friday.
"We have our parents who work very hard to raise this money," said superintendant Tim McCarty. "In these economic times, it's difficult."
McCarty says steps have been taken to improve money-handling practices in non-profit clubs, which depend on donations to pay for student activities.
CBS13 was not able to reach Annis for comment. She is facing fraud and embezzlement charges, and is due in court later this month.
