9 Special Needs School Buses Broken Into Overnight
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Nine Sacramento City school buses have been broken into overnight. The thieves did some major damage, but they left behind some key evidence.
"I was just shocked. When I hear the news check your bus," says school bus driver Herburt Adolfo.
Driving for the Sacramento City Unified School District for 13 years, Herburt Adolfo says it's never happened before.
"Oh yeah, this one is damaged alright," he says.
Early Thursday morning, nine school buses at the transportation yard were vandalized.
"This is what alerted the K-9 officer that there may be someone in the yard," says one officer.
A police officer leaving Sac P.D's communication center, located next to the yard saw two bikes.
"The officer stopped and took a look inside the bus transportation until he saw two individuals going about from bus to bus," says the officer.
Cutting wires and trying to steal five stereos from the buses is what the thieves were trying to do. Also, many of the buses were used to transport students with special needs.
Police arrived on the scene and the suspects took off, leaving behind the broken stereos.
Fixing the buses will cost several hundred dollars.
"This is the wrong time for something like this to happen, our budget situation for all the schools in the state of California is pretty bleak right now," explains one school official.
