The Santa Parade is back after Sacramento Mayor-elect Kevin Johnson officially announced a $20,000 donation to keep the event going.
The holiday parade, which draws almost 25,000 people a year to Sacramento's downtown, was cancelled last week after the budget came up short. Mayor-elect Johnson's swearing-in committee discovered that his inaugural celebration came in under budget, and donated the remaining cash to keep the parade alive.
"It falls in line with what we want to do," Johnson said. "The amount of calls we got from people who plan vacations around this event
they come with their kids and grandkids."
Officials hope the thousands of spectators will benefit the struggling local businesses.
