Salmon Fishing No Longer Legal In Central Valley

SACRAMENTO (AP) ― Beginning today it's illegal to fish for salmon in the Central Valley.

The Department of Fish and Game shut down the fishing season as part of an effort to protect the dwindling stocks of the Sacramento River fall Chinook salmon.

Fishing isn't allowed on the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers and their tributaries.

It is legal for fishermen to catch trout, steelhead, sturgeon, striped bass, black bass, sunfish and catfish.
