Victim: Thief Walked Up To Me Wearing My Clothes
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
The burglary of a Sacramento home was easily solved when one of the alleged thieves talked with the victim while wearing the stolen property, according to police.
Tammy Brown was planning to soon move from her Sacramento home, but three people allegedly showed up while she was not at home and cleared out her belongings in just a few minutes. Their actions caught the attention of neighbors, who suspected that something was not right when a woman rolled up to the victim's home with a dolly.
"I said, 'You don't belong here,'" said neighbor Steve Carey. "She said, 'I'm here to get the dryer.' I said, 'I don't think so.' You don't belong on this property.'"
Police were called to the scene, and when Brown came back home, she had no problem pointing out a likely suspect in the case.
One of her neighbors, 36-year-old Kathleen Lawson, allegedly walked up to her while wearing Brown's own clothes.
"I was shocked," Brown said. "She walked right up the gate and said, 'What are you going to do with the dryer?' I said, 'How do you know there is a dryer? You've gone in my house
you are wearing my clothes.'"
Brown's family members kept Lawson from walking away, and the suspect made a comment that Tammy couldn't believe.
"She told me I have good taste in clothes," Brown said. "I think these are desperate, low-life, really stupid people."
Some of the stolen items were found in a trailer just across the street, and more items were found at a home around the corner. Two more people, 30-year-old Jesus Hernandez and 22-year-old Felicia McCoy, were also arrested in connection with the theft.
All of the suspects are facing burglary charges, but Kathleen Lawson is also facing drug charges.
