Drownings, Close Calls On Sacramento Rivers
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
In two days, two people have drowned, one person is in grave condition, and two others are recovering after nearly drowning in Sacramento-area rivers. On a weekend where the high temperatures send residents to the water, authorities are urging residents to be cautious while swimming.
Rescuers pulled a 4-year old boy from the water at Discovery Park on Saturday after he went under the water. He was swimming with his father and somehow slipped under, but beachgoers were able to revive him and get him to a hospital.
It was the same place an 11-year old girl drowned on Friday while swimming at park.
"It only takes a couple of seconds for people to see someone's life slip out of their hands," said Niko King from the Sacramento Fire Department. "It sounds like [the boy] was just a few moments away from his end."
A 20-year old man is in grave condition after nearly drowning in the American River near the Howe boat ramp, and another almost died after jumping off a bridge near Sunrise Boulevard.
None of the children who had to be rescued were wearing life jackets.
