New Red Light Cameras Snapping Errant Motorists

More Local News
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Sacramento has new red light camera systems in three busy intersections with many more to come.

The new digital red light cameras are now watching for errant drivers at 47th Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; Howe Avenue and Hurley Way; and Fair Oaks Boulevard and Watt Avenue.

The digital cameras 'go live' today.  But motorists caught running a red light in the next 30 days will just get a warning in the mail.  As of August 7th, violators will get a citation. The Sheriff's department says people getting citations will be able to go to a website and will be able to "clearly see where their vehicle is in relationship to the intersection's limit line, and the green, yellow and red lights."

The fine is currently $406 for drivers running red lights.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says the new digital camera systems will be installed at six additional intersections in the county by the end of the month.
