A couple is facing charges of neglect and abuse after their four children were found living in filth inside their Sacramento home, according to authorities.
The Sacramento Police Department said 32-year-old mother Anita Rivera and her 30-year-old boyfriend William Kindrick lived inside a shockingly unsanitary home on the 400 block of Buckley Way with Rivera's four children, ages 1 through 12.
"When the officers went in the house, they discovered a house smelling of dog feces," said Sacramento Police Sgt. Norm Leong. The house "had debris in the children's bedrooms six inches tall, where you couldn't even walk through it," with cockroaches and food scattered everywhere, Leong added.
Investigators were tipped off when a neighbor, who did not wish to be identified, called police after she witnessed the boyfriend allegedly attacking a 12-year-old boy in the front yard.
"He picked him up and slammed him on the ground," the neighbor said. "The little boy started crying."
Police said Kindrick also attacked an 11-year-old boy. Both boys had injuries from the alleged abuse, Leong said.
"That was a child; a baby. You don't do that," the neighbor said.
The grandmother of the four children said that her son, the biological father of the children, took them in after Rivera and Kindrick were arrested.
The couple will be in court Thursday to be arraigned on the charges.
