Roseville Using Old Town Look For Modern Fun
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) ―
Roseville city leaders are trying to transform their city into the latest entertainment hotspot. They're trying to keep the historic railroad feel of the town alive, but make the inside as cool as any big city nightclub.
Kenny Gowan grew up in Roseville, left for college, opened a bar in San Diego, and now he's come back to do the same thing in his hometown. Now the city of Roseville wants more people like Kenny to do the same thing.
The area in San Diego, called the Gaslamp District, has become a big success after a revitalization project in the 90's, and that's exactly what Roseville wants to pattern it's Old Town after.
Old Town business owners are already making plans, and so has the city, developing ideas for a $130 million, 20 year renovation might look like when it's all done. The city hopes to blend sleek new buildings in with its old brick heritage.
Of course, Roseville is now known for its suburban homes, shopping centers and its auto mall, but city leaders have decided it's missing something: A place to go for fun.
"These old buildings, they've been here for 100 years and that's kind of what creates a neighborhood," said Mark Wolinski, an analyst for Roseville.
