Construction Begins On Roseville I-80 Bottleneck

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) ― Crews have begun a project that will widen Interstate 80 at a notorious traffic trouble spot in Roseville, and breaking the bottleneck will cost significantly less money than expected.

The project will add lanes from the Placer County line to Eureka Road. Placer County is saving money on this project as construction companies are competing for business in this slow economy.

"The estimates have come in very low due to the downturn in the economy," said Placer County Supervisor Jim Holmes.

The expected decrease in traffic will be equivalent to taking 1,327 cars off the road for an entire year, saving more than 800,000 gallons of gas.

Crews hope to finish the project by the year 2010. They will work at night to avoid slowing traffic.
