'I-5 Strangler' Sentenced To Six Life Sentences

More Local News
STOCKTON, Calif. (CBS13/AP) ― The man known as the "I-5 Strangler" was sentenced Thursday to six consecutive life sentences after pleading guilty to the murders of six women throughout Central California.

The sentence was part of a plea deal with 70-year-old Roger Kibbe that spared him from the death penalty.  Prosecutes made the deal after taking into account Kibbe's age and slow pace of executions in the state.  Prosecutors say Kibbe will likely die in prison either way.

Authorities say Kibbe murdered five women in 1986 and one in 1977 along Interstate 5, giving him the nickname.

Kibbe was charged while serving a life sentence for the 1987 slaying. Investigators had long suspected him of the other crimes, but it took decades to build the case against him.
