Police Officer On Life Support After Crash

RICHMOND (AP) ― A Richmond police officer is on life support after his patrol car crashed into a light pole.

Authorities say 29-year-old Bradley Moody was responding to an assault call Saturday morning when he lost control of his car and slammed sideways into the pole. It was raining at the time.

He was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

Richmond police Lt. Mark Gagan says the officer, a seven-year veteran of the force, has been declared brain dead and is on life support for possible organ donation.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident although authorities say they believe the wet road was a factor.

A police dog in the patrol car was also injured but is expected to survive.
