Stolen Rare Bird Returned To Pet Store
AUBURN (CBS13) ―
A rare bird stolen from an Auburn pet store was returned safe, and its caretakers expect it to be just fine.
The Blue Mountain Lori was stolen from the Incredible Pets store about a week ago, and since the bird requires a special type of diet, employees feared that the bird would die within 48 hours.
The 14-week-old bird is on a strict diet of nectar and cannot fly.
"We really weren't sure if anyone knew how to take care of a nectar eater," said Joanne Filice from Incredible Pets.
Whoever stole the bird tried to feed her. "She was filthy," Joanne said. "She was covered in nectar."
But the thief called the store soon after, and promised to return the bird. The store agreed, and didn't press charges against the bird-napper.
"She's a good baby and she was happy to come home," Joanne said.
The pet store has made some changes to store security to prevent this from happening again.
